The legendary female warriors, the Amazons, founded Izmir, or Smyrna as it was called in Ancient Times, according to one story. Alternatively, according to another tale, the Lelegs established it.

The southern part of the Çeme Peninsula in zmir, in particular, forms one of the major yacht routes in Turkey. The small bays which extend side by side in the south of the sub-district of Alaçat are paradise for yacht lovers.
